I caught up with my friend and one of the nicest most talented make up artists in the business, Caroline Barnes.

Caroline has had a very varied and successful career, shooting major fashion and beauty campaigns all around the world.

We first worked together over 20 years ago, and I have many memories of all the shoots and giggles we have shared over the years.

Ambassador for Max Factor and creator of Speed Beauty.

I picked her brains on all things beauty so I could share with you all.

Enjoy my gorgeous #GlowSquad!

Caroline, which three beauty items could you not live without?

Facial oils. I’m obsessed. I have lots of favourites including De Mamiel, Elequra, Decléor and Willowberry.

Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick. It’s a brilliant multipurpose foundation stick that covers my skin well, feels light and looks fresh on the skin.

Brow pencils as I have the worst brows! You can pick up great brow products in mass and premium brands these days – there’s so much choice.

What’s your skincare regime, and does this differ from morning to night?

Yes. And it also changes throughout the seasons, and depending on how my skin generally feels. In the morning, I use De Mamiel Cleansing Balm, Medik8 Vitamin C Serum, Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel and Sisley’s Black Rose Moisturiser. In the evening, I use Pixi + Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse and Medik8’s Rentinoate.

What’s been your biggest beauty faux pas?

Well, for this I would have to return to the 80’s. I bleached my hair with ‘Sun In ‘and then had a perm. Most of my hair fell out in the perm roller. I was left with bald patches and awful frizzy hair and had to wear caps for the next 6 months!

What’s been your most extravagant beauty splurge?

Always skincare. I haven’t been blessed with perfect skin. I had acne for decades so I’m always searching for the best new formulas. I did buy a Tria home laser machine last year, but after a few weeks I lost interest and stopped doing it, so that was a complete waste of money!

When, and what, was your last beauty treatment?

Oh gosh, it was SO long ago I can’t even remember. It’s so tricky booking an appointment a week or so in advance as I never know when I’m working, and then ‘sod’s law’ always comes out to play. I’ll book treatment and then a fabulous job comes in. Saying that, I would love a facial soon – one that involves laser and light therapy to really make a difference.

What’s your best beauty hack to share with the readers of You Glow Girl?

I’ve learnt over the years that is doesn’t matter how much make-up you have on your face if you can’t look someone in the eye, smile and laugh, then you don’t project any real beauty in my opinion. I’m all about creating the best version of yourself, but if you don’t have a twinkle in your eye, then your natural beauty can’t shine through.

This is a great interview Lisa . We don’t always get to hear from the talent behind the photo shoots, so it’s humbling to hear they struggle with skin issues too and knowing what she uses.
