I’m a huge fan of green tea, and have been for a while. While there’s no substitute for the taste – or smell! – of freshly ground coffee, sadly it just doesn’t agree with me anymore. The massive caffeine boost of coffee leaves me feeling jittery and anxious these days. Though, weirdly, on a night out with the girls, the odd espresso martini or two goes down a treat! But in the morning on an empty stomach, fresh coffee leaves me feeling completely strung out.

And so green tea has become my go-to. Bizarrelyhowever, its reported that tea and green tea contains the same or sometimes more caffeine than a cup of coffee, which makes zero sense to me. Green tea is much gentler on my system, plus it’s packed full of anti-oxidants. My new favorite is the Lean Matcha Green from Pukka (£2.39 for 20 sachets, available from pukkaherbs.com).

On these brisk autumn mornings, a cuppa of this is a delicious and warming start to the day. Packed full of ginger root, sweet cinnamon, black pepper and turmeric, it has a slightly spicy taste and really kick starts my taste buds. It also contains sweet fennel seed  a mild appetite suppressant, which also helps to increase metabolism. The list of its goodness goes on: matcha powder, lemon, and also dandelion root which is a natural diuretic, helping to flush out our systems and purify the blood.

My top tip – as well as enjoying this hot in the mornings, I also make a brew the night before and stick it in the fridge. This makes a delicious, refreshing and nourishing drink to sip throughout the day.

I loved this post and really agree with the coffee part it’s the same for me, but just thought i’d just share with you what has worked for me. I have recently found out that tannins are contained in teas and coffee and these are iron blockers, so where I used to have at least a coffee and a green tea in one day I have since started having only one of these types of drinks and I have stopped getting that post coffee feeling and have lots more energy. I do have low iron levels already though, so might not be the same for you.
