While I admit I love a skincare splurge, often a product comes along that works wonders and is purse-friendly, too. In this case, it’s not just a product, but an entire line of effective and affordable skincare. The Ordinary (theordinary.com) burst on to the scene in 2016, and its founder, former computer programmer, Brandon Truaxe, had one thing in mind when he created Deciem: luxury products at affordable prices. Having spotted the huge mark-up between the cost of raw ingredients and what they sold for when bottled, it’s easy to see how his line, The Ordinary, soon became a cult beauty brand.

Browsing their website, however, is slightly more complicated. For those of us not au fait with skincare jargon, the site can be a bit overwhelming. What is apparent, though, is that these products are organic and cruelty-free, so you can be sure there’s no hidden nasties in your skincare regime. And so, I wanted to take you through my favourite picks from The Ordinary – I guarantee there’s a product to suit your skin’s needs!

First up is the mighty Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (£5.90 for 30ml). If your skin needs a serious moisture boost, then this is product for you. Containing low, medium and high weight HA molecules, this helps our complexions to hold on to hydration. I apply this under moisturiser both a.m. and p.m., and it leaves my face feeling plumped and seriously glowy.

If it’s anti-aging you’re after, then give the Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion a go (£8 for 30ml). Here’s for the science bit: retinoid acid is an active form of vitamin A, which encourages the production of collagen – helping to smooth fine lines and tackle pigmentation. I love the consistency of this product, and apply a small amount in the p.m., though never under heavier products. It’s important to note that overuse can be drying and irritate the skin. It also leaves our complexions vulnerable to sunlight, so always use a good SPFrdn-advanced-retinoid-2pct-30ml

The next star ingredient is Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone (£5.80 for 30ml). This super high concentration of L-Ascorbic acid is a key player when it comes to brightening our skin tone. This waterless formula remains stable when applied topically, which means you get a mega boost of the vitamin’s antioxidant properties. I apply this 2-3 times a week in the p.m. as part of my skin care routine, and find it really helps to tackle signs of tiredness and aging. During the first few weeks of use, a tingling sensation occurs, though if you find this too much, the formula can be diluted with other creams and serums.rdn-vitamin-c-suspension-30pct-in-silicone-30ml

For skin that needs a lot of love, try the 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil (£9 for 30ml). Rich in omega fatty acids, this super smooth oil helps to boost skin health. Tackling a whole range ailments – redness, scars, burns – this 100% pure formula is the perfect anti-inflammatory ingredient. I use in the p.m. over water-based products, and find it helps to breathe life back into my skin.rdn-100pct-organic-cold-pressed-rose-hip-seed-oil-30ml

Last up is The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturising Factors + HA (£4.90 for 30ml). If it’s an all-round hero moisturiser you’re after, then this non-greasy formula should be on your shopping list. It contains loads of ingredients that naturally occur in our skin – amino and fatty acids – and forms a protective barrier between our face and the environment. I apply this under serums both morning and night.rdn-natural-moisturizing-factors-ha-100ml

I found their products earlier this year and agree they are really good. I love the caffeine under eye drops they are really good for dark circles and I have tried lots of other products. I had to go to another website I think Victoria health to find out how to use though.
